Girls' Exploration and Empowerment Club (GEEC)

From 2007-2011 WomensTrust partnered with and assisted the nonprofit group, Ghana Sustainable Aid Project (GSAP) in getting started. During that time, GSAP created and ran the Girls' Exploration and Empowerment Club (GEEC), an after-school program for girls that supplemented their public school education with field trips, hands-on activities, and computer training. The GEEC curriculum is an interdisciplinary, culturally appropriate curriculum specifically for young teen girls living in the village of Pokuase.

In the four years that WomensTrust partnered with GSAP, the program went from running one after-school class, to building a community center, internet cafe, and sixteen toilets for Pokuase, as well as creating the town's first library and developing a theater class. In 2011 GSAP received a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grant, and has since become an independant entity. WomensTrust is honored to stay close with GSAP as they continue their important work.
