Remembering Nana Apt

WomensTrust mourns the passing of its former Ghana board chair, Dr. Nana Araba Apt, an internationally renowned advocate for the power of girls education. Nana was a gifted visionary, an independent thinker and an impassioned teacher. She will be deeply missed by all of us at WomensTrust. Her legacy will live on in the successes of our students.

Anthony Essel-Anderson, Chair

Anthony Essel-Anderson is a Lecturer at Ashesi University College. Anthony has over ten years’ experience in teaching and research in accounting and finance. He has served as adjunct lecturer in accounting and finance at Advanced Business College, Data-Link University College, and University of Ghana. He has been teaching and coaching students to write the Financial Management, Advanced Financial Management and Management Accounting examination papers of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.

Anthony is a seasoned resource person for business and finance workshops. He was the facilitator for five Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops on financial modelling and risk management organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana for its members and interested business executives. He delivered the Build Your Business curriculum of Microsoft and International Youth Foundation to undergraduate students of the MasterCard Foundation Scholarship at Ashesi University College, Ghana.

Anthony has special interest in budgeting and control, financial modelling, risk management, taxation, venture capital and private equity, personal finance and accounting, and business case studies. He has carried out research in budgeting and control and supported research in tax compliance. He co-authored a case study on UT Bank, Ghana.

Anthony provides consultancy services to entrepreneurs and private entities in the areas of business planning, financial control and risk management. He served as promoter in the establishment and registration of the Association for the Empowerment of Persons with Disability (AEDP) based in Ghana and DreamRivers Multimedia Ltd based in Ghana, and occupies a board seat in both organisations.

Anthony contributes to decision-making and governance in some private and public-interest organisations. At Ashesi University College, he is the Chair of the Academic Programme Committee, member of the Quality Assurance Committee, and member of the Academic Council. He is a member of the ICT Committee of the 2014-2016 Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.

Anthony is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana. He holds B.Sc. in Administration and M.Phil. in Accounting from the University of Ghana, Legon.

 

Akosua Konadu Asamoah

Akosua Asamoah is a seasoned human resources professional with expertise in recruitment, training and development, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, and health and safety administration.

She currently serves as Human Resources Manager for GCNet, a software consulting firm that serves government agencies. She also spent over six years as a human resources manager for eProcess International S.A. (a member of the ECOBANK Group).

Previously, she also held management-level positions with WaterAid, Ghana; the LINKAGES Project (funded by USAID); and Canadian Mineral Exploration Ltd.

Mrs. Asamoah holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Ghana-Legon; and an Executive MBA in Human Resources Management from the University of Ghana Business School.

 

Mansah Prah

Mansah Prah is a retired professor of Sociology and a former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Cape Coast. She taught Sociology and Gender Studies for 29 years at the University of Cape Coast and spearheaded the introduction of gender studies into the university’s curriculum. She has served on the boards of NGO’s such the Cape Coast Centre for Women, the Third World Network and the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa. She has publications on gender and education, gender violence and gender and sexuality. Currently she is a research affiliate at the Centre for Gender Research and Advocacy at the University of Ghana.

 

Marilyn Aniwa

Ms. Marilyn Aniwa is a Population and Development Specialist with close to 25 years development experience. Ms Aniwa holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Population and Development; a Master of Arts degree in Population Studies and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Archaeology and History.

She is currently the Coordinator of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC). Ms. Aniwa previously worked as Executive Director of the Union for African Population Studies (UAPS).  Prior to joining the Union, she worked with the Parliamentary Centre of Canada as In-Country Coordinator for Ghana; with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as Development Officer, the British Council as Assistant Director, and as a Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism. 

Ms. Aniwa is an experienced manager with several years’ experience in project management and development. Her area of expertise is in Governance, Gender Training and Advocacy, Policy Analysis, Monitoring & Evaluation, Demographic Analysis and Research. She has undertaken several consultancies for the UNDP, UNFPA, DANIDA, the International Water Resource Centre and has managed a couple of International conferences. 

At the professional level, Marilyn Aniwa has led the design and management of an innovative program of capacity building for Members of Ghana’s Parliament as well as various Parliaments across the continent, building capacities of Members of Parliament in countries such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Sudan, the ECOWAS Parliament and the Pan African Parliament. 

Ms. Aniwa has been a member of the ActionAid Ghana Board since 2009 and was Board Chair from June 2011 to June 2017. She was also the International representative on the ActionAid UK Board of Trustees.
