An important component of the WomensTrust mission is to inspire others to replicate our model. We have recently launched to independance four separate affiliate partners with microlending programs reaching eight towns and villages in Ghana and two towns in Kenya.
The Yonso Project is a registered 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization devoted to increasing educational and economic achievement in the developing world. Inspired by WomensTrust, their programs operate in partnership with rural communities in the West African nation of Ghana. In June 2007, WomensTrust loan administrators (Team Pokuase) were hired to train the new staff for this project. We hosted founder Nick Caccavo and his team of US students, who in turn sent their Ghanaian team to Pokuase for how-to instruction. They returned to their town fully equipped with our best practices and our template for success.
World Class was begun by a core of Skidmore alumnae, class of 1971, who, at their 35th reunion decided to reunite and reengage the passion of their undergraduate years by partnering with the town of Amasaman in Ghana.
The Village Net started with a chance meeting at the Microcredit Summit in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when Seattle University economics professor, Harriet Stephenson, shared a cab with WomensTrust. The Village Net now offers programs in Ofankor, Ghana and another in Kenya.
